Organic wastes are wasted as garbage and polluting the environment. Organic wastes includes products such a wood, food products, paper, yard wastes and also includes methane emissions. Recycling wastes into energy has been the dream of many environmentalists and it may soon be a reality. Wastes can be decomposed to become productive products, such as fuel, bio-oil, natural gas, gasoline and diesel.
The Environment Protection Agency has pointed out that most of the global warming has been from the greenhouse gases that have escaped from landfills. In 2014 alone, the greenhouse gases that escaped from about 70 trillion, is polluting the globe to a large extent. In 2015, the greenhouse gas produced almost an equivalent of 116 million metric tons. Methane, which contributes more towards global warming in comparison to carbon dioxide, at almost 30 times, is polluting the air from these wastes, much beyond what is estimated.
Saving the World
By using the current infrastructure through collection and separation, waste feedstock can also be collected, which can be provided at low costs. It will also reduce the necessity for additional landfills across all countries. As these wastes can be used to produce transport fuel, it can enhance energy. It provides energy and prevents methane emissions that are slowly destroying the environment. Using food waste to power garbage trucks, trucks, cars and SU,V will help to save the environment and save precious fuels such as gasoline and diesel.
Organic wastes are available in abundance, as they are found in each and every household. The infrastructure is already available. It just requires an extra effort to produce fuel through fermentation, anaerobic digestion, liquefaction, gasification and hydrothermal measures. Saving the environment, bringing down the cost, producing renewable energy and making use of existing facilities are great ideas that the world requires. Providing the next generation a better tomorrow, should be a commitment of each individual and not the concern of environmentalists alone.
